Dry eye feels different for everyone who has it. For some patients, it is a gritty, sandpaper feeling that gets worse by afternoon. The second is aqueous-deficient dry eye. This means your eyes simply are not making enough of the watery part of your tears. It is less common than the evaporative type, but real, and it responds to a different approach.

Many patients have a mix of both. That is exactly why guessing does not work.

Why drops from the store often stop helping

Artificial tears add moisture back to your eyes for an hour or two. That is useful for quick relief. But drops do not fix blocked oil glands, and they do not treat the underlying reason your tears are not working. You end up reaching for the bottle again and again, and the problem stays exactly where it was.

How we find the actual cause
